Congratulations to the City of Alexandria for being named a “City of Excellence” by the League of Minnesota Cities! City leaders accepted the award June 24 at the League’s annual conference in Duluth.
The city received the award for how the public was engaged in the complex 2014 reconstruction of Broadway Street, which is the city’s main downtown thoroughfare. Public engagement actually began in 2010 with a series of public visioning sessions, and it included a mid-summer “Party in the Street” after a major portion of the project was complete. The Party in the Street was so successful in 2014 that it will be repeated this July 31.
