Swenson Lervick attorney Tom Jacobson today presented a legislative update to the West Central Minnesota Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The presentation focused on recently passed and currently pending Minnesota and federal laws and regulations relating to employment law. Highlights of the seminar included:
- New DOL FMLA regulations and guidance;
- Statutory and regulatory responses to the United States Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Windsor striking down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)
- New Minnesota law regarding the use of sick leave and pre-hire criminal background checks;
- Pending Minnesota legislation on minimum wage, pregnancy leave and many other topics.
Jacobson is certified as a Labor and Employment Law Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association, is a frequent speaker on employment law topics and is a co-founder of the West Central Minnesota Employment Law Update which will be celebrating its eleventh year in 2014.
